One Woman Steps In To Save Elderly Man At Grocery Store

Sometimes, the opportunity for kindness can come unexpectedly. For one woman, her day started out like any other. It was a typical outing to the store, or so Lisa Lemming thought, when out of the corner of her eye she spotted an elderly veteran who looked extremely uncomfortable.
Lisa had seen the man while she was walking down the grocery aisle in her local supermarket, making eye contact and smiling. But as she got closer, she could tell something wasn't right.
Sensing Lisa's kind heart, the man confided in her that he needed help. In her Facebook post that has since gone viral, Lisa says that he was visibly upset and didn't want anyone else to notice what had just happened.
"As I walked past him he looked like he needed something. I went back and asked him if I could help him. Tears welled up in his eyes and he said, "I have colon cancer and I have had a really bad accident, if I get up out of this cart everyone will know... What should I do?" The look of his dignity lost left me with a lump in my throat."
Lisa sprang into action, as did the fellow Kroger grocery employees. They discreetly gave the man wipes and undergarments, and took him to the employee restroom. Clean clothes soon followed, and the man was overcome with emotion.
"He cried and apologized. He said he had to hurry his wife was at home alone. When we walked to the register we found his groceries all bagged and somehow paid for. He cried harder."
As it turns out, Lisa's amazing act of service benefited someone who has dedicated their life to service, as this man is a Vietnam and Korean War veteran.
"He said he fought in Vietnam and Korean War and loved his country, but up until day he said he thought his country forgot about him. We both cried and I shared with him my own struggles and fears... He gave me words of wisdom and encouraged me that maybe after all, humanity still does care about one another."
Here's another story of service that will warm your heart.
Lisa was definitely in the right place at the right time, as she was able to step in and help this man when he needed it the most. Her act of kindness is an example that even the most simple gestures can make a world of difference.
