Doberman Tosses Their Baby Across The Room. The Family Quickly Realizes Why
Marilyn Caylor 12/1/2016
When you see a dog grab a baby, your blood may run cold before the unrelenting anger sets in. It's even worse when that dog unceremoniously tosses the baby across the room, as if the precious life were nothing more than a rag doll toy. What do you think you would do in that situation?
Your first instinct may be to rush at the dog and tackle him to the ground before he could do any more harm. That's probably what Catherine Svilicic wanted to do when the family's newly adopted Doberman started acting out towards her baby daughter.
They only had the dog for 4 days when the unthinkable happened. It was so terrifying for the mother to watch!
Catherine probably never imagined that the adorable Doberman she saved from certain death would actually do what he did.
Her toddler would never be the same after that encounter.
Catherine Svilicic was happy to have adopted a neglected Doberman pooch in Queensland, Australia. He was named Khan, perhaps after one of the famous Mongolian emperors. When Khan was first rescued, the poor doggy was starving, had broken ribs, and had also been severely beaten by his previous owner. He was definitely an abused dog.
As many folks know, sometimes abused animals can never go back to more innocent times. The terror they learn at the hands of their captor can affect how they express themselves. Sadly, this means some dogs can act aggressively towards humans, and even other animals.
Liability issues prevent these dogs from being adoptable to the general public, and they are usually put to sleep. It's unknown why Khan wasn't scheduled to meet his maker.
One afternoon when Catherine's 17-month-old daughter Charlotte was playing in the garden, Khan went right up to the toddler and knocked her down onto the ground.
That's exactly what a schoolyard bully might do to a smaller classmate. Only, Khan wasn't just being a bully, and his behavior was definitely over the top! This dog seemed to be on a mad mission, snarling at nothing in particular.
However, it seemed that Khan wasn't just satisfied with nudging the little tot. The Doberman proceeded to grab the back of Charlotte's diaper and throw her more than a meter behind him.
Catherine quickly ran over to her daughter, who was in shock. The mother was surprised when she heard Khan scream out in pain.
That's when Catherine noticed a slithering brown reptile hiding in the grass. The dog she had rescued from a life of abuse had decided to pay the family back in kind. The wonder pup wasn't trying to harm Charlotte! Khan was actually protecting the baby from a snake that had crawled out from underneath the house.
However, it wasn't just any garden variety snake. It was a dangerous king brown, which is one of the most venomous in Australia!
In a sad twist of fate, Khan was bitten on the paw while trying to save Charlotte. This heroic doggy had only known the family for 4 days, yet he had no qualms about putting his own life in danger to save the toddler.
The exhausting ordeal took a toll on the poor doggy. Soon after being nabbed by the deadly snake, he ran into the house and collapsed.
Thankfully, a local vet was able to give Khan a life-saving shot of anti-venom. To prove he was a true survivor, Khan even ate a big breakfast the next morning. Despite his near-death experience, this super hero doggy was on the way to a full recovery!
The family is so grateful for Khan's protective and selfless act. Catherine says that he will get whatever luxuries he wants in life. If that means being treated like a Mongolian emperor and eating out of a gold bowl, then that's what he'll get!
He'll probably be just as happy to receive simple luxuries - like cuddles, kisses and lots of love!
