Rory Feek Makes Confession About Marriage With Joey - And How It's Now Changing Everything
Having a baby changes everything about life that you once knew. Now you have a person you love unconditionally, would give anything to and want to be around all the time. A love like this is something only a parent can truly understand!
Such is the case for country music star Rory Feek. However, he and his late wife Joey weren't always on the same page when it came to raising children of their own.
In Rory's recent post on his website, This Life I Live, he shared the struggle his wife Joey had about having children - but once she came to terms with the idea, their lives changed forever.
Joey was against having children for years and it killed Rory!
"She didn't want to have a baby. She told me so. Dozens of times. In 14 years of marriage, it was literally the only thing that we ever really argued about."
In an otherwise blissful marriage, this was the topic they couldn't see eye to eye on!
In Joey's mind, children meant giving up on everything that was important to her - her career, future plans and aspirations would all be on hold for the baby. She had big dreams and, to her, a baby would ruin all of them.
Rory went on to explain why his wife was so steadfastly against having children and the reason behind her sudden change of heart:
"Having a baby would, of course, be painful. And it was a commitment, not just for 9 months or a few years when they're young.. but for a lifetime. And having a child would ultimately get in the way of her goals, of her music and her dreams. And so Joey wouldn't consider it. Not even talk about.
Until one day in the summer of 2013, when Joey came to me and out of nowhere said, 'I'm ready.'
I asked her, 'ready for what?'
'Ready to trust Him,' she said.
I knew what that meant and I knew what a big deal it was that she was saying it.
'So... you wanna have a baby,' I said.
No, I don't,' she answered.
'But more than what I want,' she said, 'I want what God wants.... I can't keep even the smallest part of my hands and my heart closed to Him any longer. not after all He's done for us... for me. He's allowed all my hopes and wishes to come true, beyond my wildest dreams. And He's given me the gift of our wonderful marriage and love. so I wanna to trust Him. I need to trust Him.'"
A year and half after Joey came to Rory with her realization, she was pregnant with their daughter Indiana! Even though she didn't want kids at first, Indiana was the blessing they needed in their lives!
"From the very first moment my wife held Indy in her arms, she was never the same. It was Joey's first real glimpse of what unconditional love felt like. She knew in that instant, what life was truly all about."
Indiana is the best thing that's ever happened to Rory - especially now, without Joey and in need of a little guidance. He can look to his daughter's smile and find the will to go on.
Rory is absolutely right. A baby really does change everything, and in the best way imaginable! Read the rest of his heartwarming post on This Life I Live!
