Abandoned Shelter Dog Too Scared To Turn Away From The Wall
Abandoned Dog Cowers In The Corner Out Of Fear, Then Rescuers Realize What She's Been Through

Sadly, it's all too common these days to read stories about abandoned dogs. Part of the problem stems from cruel humans who treat animals as if their lives are disposable. Unwanted dogs, or puppies that have outgrown the cuteness stage, are left to rot and fend for themselves.
If the dogs are "lucky," they are unceremoniously dumped onto stressed-out staff at the nearest animal shelter. However, that "luck" has a time limit of only a few days... then the unthinkable happens. When irresponsible humans can't get their act together, precious lives are lost!
Tammy Graves is used to seeing all sorts of animal abuse. It's not something anyone could ever really get used to. When she could no longer stand by and watch innocent animals suffer, she formed The Haley Graves Foundation. This non-profit animal rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of shelter dogs that have uncertain futures.
This devoted doggy lover visits animal shelters on a regular basis, and takes home dogs that are on the "code red" shortlist. Code red animals are usually in urgent need of adoption or rescue, and often require costly medical care or rehabilitation.
On one of Tammy's trips to a local animal shelter, she walked by a kennel and saw a young doggy cowering in the corner. The heartbroken pooch was frozen with fear, and the corner wall was the only place she could seem to find a comforting embrace.
Tammy was so appalled at what she saw, she immediately posted the image on her Facebook page.
"This is what happens when people bring their dog to a shelter and leave them. This guy yesterday morning woke up happy on a couch or in a warm bed, waiting to be fed, hopped in the car thinking he was going to the park..."
When a dejected little pup decides it's safer to make friends with a wall rather than befriend a human, you know she's led a very "ruff" life.
Tammy actually wasn't there to rescue this dog during her visit to the shelter. It was only a coincidence that she happened to spot her. However, after Tammy saw the dog's condition, she couldn't just leave her there.
"Animals walk by and never return. And he has no idea his fate. All he knows is he didn't ask to be here. He didn't even ask to be born to irresponsible owners. But today he lays frozen in fear, in a puddle of his own urine. Afraid to move, afraid to make eye contact, thinking just maybe he can fade away into this wall. Because if he does no one will see him and just maybe he can escape whatever fate waits for him. "
Sometimes it's easier to pretend that an invisibility cloak will protect you from harm. That's exactly how this little girl must have felt when she tried to melt into the wall. Thankfully, Tammy saw through this pretend camouflage and was able to rescue the gorgeous pup from an unknown fate.
The doggy was renamed June Cash, and it was very apparent that she was grateful for her benefactor's unconditional kindness. If you believe that dogs have dreams, then this is exactly the kind of happy outcome that June was probably hoping would come true.
Once she was lying safely in the back of the car, June seemed to give a nod of gratitude to the heavens above. Someone up there had definitely answered her prayers!
After June was taken to the vet, it was discovered that she had a very serious heartworm infection. The treatment was expensive, but her life was worth more than just money. The rescue organization paid for the medical costs, and Tammy made sure that June stayed with an amazing foster family.
"This girl loves long walks on the farm with her foster dad. She is still working on her trust issues and will need someone that is very patient and willing to work with her."
Wow - staying on a farm with wide open spaces is every dog's wildest dream come true!
Once she was medically cleared by the vet, it wasn't very long before June was able to find a family that truly valued her life. In fact, June got the very best Christmas present ever - she was adopted on Christmas Eve and now has a forever home in Virginia!

What a happy ending to such a sad story! Shelter dogs make the best dogs in the world. They've already been through the worst, and they are so appreciative when you can show them the best things that life has to offer!
