Bride's Grandfather Plays Unusual Role In Wedding Ceremony
Katie Mooney 1/6/2017
Some of the things you may expect to experience on a wedding day include bundles of fresh flowers, numerous smiles and joyful faces, refreshing cocktails, and love-filled music. On the contrary, something you probably wouldn't expect would be wide eyes, whispering, and snickering as the bride prepares to descend down the aisle.
For one couple, the "wide eyes" and "snickers" were in fact a huge part of their ceremony - and it was the bride's grandfather who caused the unforgettable commotion.
Jen then came up with an adorable way to officially ask her grandfather to play this very important part, and it was through an embroidered handkerchief.
Jen shared of her grandfather's response to the "flower grandpa" invitation,
"He laughed and said yes. Like any typical 85-year-old, he forgot the whole thing happened so I asked him again 2-3 months later."
And before they knew it, and after much "flower dropping" practice, the big day had finally come. Even the groom himself couldn't resist grinning from ear to ear at the lovable and unusual "flower grandpa" sight!
As this grandfather emerged from the back, with his tray full of flower petals, the unknowing crowd lit up instantly. Smiles, chatter, and giggling - oh my!
And as he made his way down the aisle, he did an extraordinary job of tossing his petals at just the precise moment, whispering jokes to the guests, and connecting warmly with the crowd. This grandfather certainly passed the flower girl test - with flying "flower petal" colors!
"He is so generous and caring and he spends most of his time doing things for people in need. When he does charity work he prefers to remain anonymous so it was nice for me to be able to put him the spotlight for something that was so special to me and him."
After this entertaining and heart-warming experience, we may just begin to hear the term "flower grandpa" used around town a bit more often!
