Mom's Delivery Goes Normal - Then Doctor Hands Her Baby Screaming She Broke A 50-Year Tradition

Having a photographer in the delivery room as you give birth is becoming an increasingly popular trend. These talented photographers are there to capture every beautiful moment of childbirth - and, oftentimes, the results are powerful!
That's exactly why Dara and Eric Crouch hired their close family friend Neely Ker-Fox to photograph the birth of their second child!
Neely is a well-known photographer in Georgia with an eye for the special moments in life, and she was well aware of the 50-year-old "tradition" looming over the Crouch family....
In an interview with TODAY, Dara explained that her family has gone more than 50 years without giving birth to a boy! That's why Dara assumed her second birth would be no different!
"I just knew I was having a girl."
Understandably, Dara opted to not reveal the baby's gender during ultrasounds and referred to the infant growing in her stomach as a girl! In Dara's mind, the gender wasn't even a question!
But when the day of their child's birth rolled around, everyone's mindset suddenly shifted. Dara, Eric and Neely started to entertain the idea of the expecting mother giving birth to a baby boy! As the hours of Dara's labor wore on, the idea of having a little boy seemed to be a real possibility.
After four long hours, Dara's doctor made a shocking announcement; she gave birth to a baby boy! As soon as Dara realized what happened, she let out a scream of excitement!
"Oh my gosh! It's a boy; I can't believe it's a boy!"
Instinctively, Neely started pressing her camera's shutter button. She sensed this moment of pure shock was something the Crouch family would want to cherish for decades to come.
Dara spends her days as a labor and delivery nurse - this means she's used to almost every type of birthing surprise! But her own experience clearly left her in disbelief.
The excited mother told TODAY that the birth of her son, Liam, was something that she just wasn't prepared for!
"As a labor and delivery nurse you get the emotions going on in the room.... you sometimes bond a lot when you've been taking care of someone for 12-plus hours.
But nothing compares with the excitement I felt with Liam."
Now little Liam is back at home with his big sister and loving parents! It seems as though Dara and Eric broke the tradition and they couldn't be more thrilled.
