Mom Courtney Bailey was down on her luck and searching for another job. She had lost the one she had and was needing money to pay the bills and care for her child. But when she noticed the red and blue lights of a cop car in her rearview mirror, her heart sunk even lower.
Courtney was cruising across Durham, North Carolina on her way to donate plasma, when the officer pulled up behind her. She knew very well that a traffic stop could lead her into even more financial trouble.
Courtney had been speeding, was not wearing a seatbelt and hadn't renewed her vehicle registration. So when Officer D.P. Strandh walked up to her window, she readily admitted to being guilty of the aforementioned offenses.
But what the officer did next meant everything to Courtney and has warmed the hearts of many. People just can't get enough of her story.
During an interview, Courtney shared:
"The crazy part that really touched my spirit was, here I am sitting in my car just super afraid of him, and he's only seeing my needs. He's only seeing me as a mom who is about to go grind it out for her child."
What did Officer Strandh do? He didn't give her a ticket, but instead felt compelled to help. He followed her to a nearby tire shop and bought her a new tire. She told him she couldn't afford any of it, what with only six cents in her bank account and $1 in the glovebox.
Officer Strandh revealed:
"I just felt some sort of connection with her, and I knew she needed some help, obviously."

Being raised to fear police officers, Courtney was floored by the officer's generosity. She couldn't believe he would help her, a complete stranger, in this way.
"When he went up to pay for the tire, he pulls out his debit card and it had his children on it. The first thing that pops into my head is that, you're a cop, on a cop's salary, and you’re about to drop $200 on me? You don't know me. That type of consideration and compassion isn’t something that you’re really used to like nowadays with humans in general..."
Courtney took to social media to share her story and herald what Officer Strandh did to help her. The officer's wife saw Courtney's video on Facebook and showed it to him. He just smiled.
People's responses have been overwhelmingly positive to Courtney's story and the officer's incredible gesture:
"I think that's the thing that really touched other people. We get so caught up in just kind of making it that we forget to really connect with someone else's humanity."

Many have expressed their gratitude toward both Courtney for spreading her message and to the officer for going above and beyond the call of duty. She emphasized that not only did he pay for a new tire and an inspection, he never gave her the tickets, something that resorted her to tears.
What's even more heartfelt is that complete strangers have reached out to Courtney offering to help her find another job. She has a bachelor's and master's degree in music. What a wonderful tribute to the human spirit.
