Pit Bull Gets Loose And Barrels Towards Shrieking Child, Owner Realizes The Terrifying Reason

Most responsible dog owners know that no matter what breed they are, dogs aren't born bad. Just like kids, dogs need loving parents in order to become a loving fur baby. Yet, not surprisingly, bad parenting skills can lead to bad doggies!
Unfortunately, pit bulls tend to get a bad rap as a violent, misbehaving dog. Yet, if you take a closer look at their human owner, you can see why this breed sometimes act the way that they do - they're a chip off a rotten, old block!
When one pit bull dog broke free of his owner's leash and headed straight towards a screaming child, it would be easy to think that the child was doomed.
Someone was definitely in for a world of hurt that night. What a horrifying situation...
Hurley the pit bull was used to prowling the streets late at night - without a leash! Of course, this is probably not a good idea no matter how late it is. All it takes is a sudden sound or movement to make any dog want to give chase - it's just part of their nature! Hurley's uncle shared:
"My brother was walking his pit bull lab mix, Hurley, in our neighborhood field around 10 pm. He walks him this late so he can let him off his leash so he can do what he loves to do, explore all the different smells."
Without warning, a child's scream could be heard piercing the quiet night. When Hurley barreled straight towards the source of the scream, the doggy's owner felt the pit of his stomach drop.
When Hurley's human daddy arrived at the scene, it was absolute chaos! For a moment, the young man didn't even know what had actually happened.
"To my brothers surprise, he was bleeding, had a swollen neck and foaming from his mouth. Sure enough, they found two puncture wounds in his upper lip."
Unfortunately, the little boy and his mother were so frightened, they didn't stick around long enough for Hurley's owner to talk to them.
"The little boy ran to his mothers vehicle and drove off so fast that my brother was unable to find out any information on the little boy. (We are assuming because they left so fast that he was bitten and being rushed to the ER)."
However, this wasn't just another case of a bad pit bull biting a helpless child. You see, Hurley was actually the hero this fateful night. He was the one that ended up with a swollen face and puncture wounds!

It turns out that the unfortunate boy had disturbed a copperhead snake's nest. The creepy, slithering reptile was about about to sink its fangs into the poor kid when Hurley heard the boy scream. So, the lovable pooch did what any brave doggy would do - he faced the danger head on.
"With my brother close behind, he saw Hurley grab a copper head snake away from the little boy and fling it around, later found out he had killed it.
The wounded dog was rushed to Denton Animal Emergency Hospital:
"...where he stayed the night so they could check his blood clotting ability multiple times through out the night. Shelby and Hurley both got home this morning. Thank God, Hurley is doing a lot better this morning, just seems a little uncomfortable with his swollen face and neck."
Hurley's owner wants everyone to know that Hurley is a hero bit bull, and that folks should think twice before improperly judging this breed.
